No words are adequate to describe the tragedy that is taking place in Haiti. Our eyes are filled with tears and our hearts are filled with pain as we see the pictures showing the incredible suffering of our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

We have received many calls and emails asking us how people can help in this situation.  Our recommendations are:

1)  Stay informed on the current situation in Haiti.  It is rapidly changing and it will be some time before all of the specific needs can be identified.

2)  Provide financial support to those organizations who have a history of helping the Haitian people and who have an infrastructure to deliver aid efficiently on a massive scale.  Pay attention to groups who seem to be able to handle the task. Below are groups that we are familiar with and who seem to have good programs:

-Doctors  Without Borders http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org

-Partners in Health http://www.pih.org

-Catholic Relief Services http://www.crs.org

-UN World Food Programme http://friendsofwfp.org  (Donate to Friends of WFP to get a US tax deduction…they forward the funds to the WFP)

3)  Consider giving to organizations that are working to build the infrastructure  in areas outside Port-au-Prince.  These areas are going to need more help than ever with the destruction of the capital they depended on so heavily.  Health and Education for Haiti has been working to build the infrastructure in the Jeremie area.  We work closely with the local Haitian clergy and medical authorities in identifying health and educational needs in the region.

If you would like to contribute to Health and Education for Haiti, we assure you that 100% of your donation will go directly to help the people of Haiti.  All of our overhead costs are paid for by our Board of Directors and all work is done by volunteers.

Thank you for your prayers, interest and generosity to help the amazing people of Haiti rebuild their country.
